Total darkness: the volcano in pictures

Icelanders are generally no strangers to darkness but they are strangers to darkness in springtime as is the case now in part of Southern Iceland where massive amounts of ash from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano rains down like doomsday has arrived.

This usually most fertile piece of the country is now blanketed by black ash making life difficult for farmers and their livestock. These pictures are all taken around midday this week and clearly show the devastation the volcano is making in this part of Iceland.
